25 December 2025 Press Release
Urgent action needed A humanitarian aid convoy by Achehnese civilians was brutally stopped by Indonesian armed soldiers at Krueng Mane, Bireuen, Acheh.
It has been more than three weeks after the heavy downpour which led to the flood catastrophe destroying houses, communication lines, infrastructures, houses and even agricultural fields devastated. The humanitarian aid is still needed including clean water, food, clothes, tents and other basic necessities. There is no significant change in the situation as some of the affected areas have yet to be reached.
The government of Indonesia has not declared the condition as a national disaster, maintaining that they are capable of handling the situation internally, thus refusing offers from the international community.
Only a handful of international organizations from Malaysia and local NGOs are boldly delivering humanitarian aid together with the local Achehnese.
To worsen the situation, a convoy of some 40 trucks to deliver humanitarian aid to East Acheh and Tamiang – the worst hit flooded area – was brutally stopped by the Indonesian military forces at Krueng Mane, Bireuen District. The convoy is a peaceful act by the Achehnese people to assist their fellow countrymen in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
From earlier reports the clampdown has caused several casualties. So far two Achehnese civilians have been wounded; 1. Nurdin Al Wahab from Pasi Lancang Village, Kembang Tanjong District and 2. Jamra from Teupin Siren, Gandapura Village, Bireuen.
We continue to monitor the situation closely.
We strongly condemn this act and violation of humanitarian law. We are worried that more innocent Achehnese victims would fall. (See attached videos)
We urgently call upon the international community to condemn this irresponsible act and continue to assist us in whatever means possible to stop these atrocities before it is out of control.
